Employee Self Service

What is Employee Self Service and what can it do your organization?

Employee self-service (ESS) is an increasingly common trend in human resources management that allows an employee to handle many job-related tasks that otherwise would have fallen to management or administrative staff.

Usually, an ESS application may be made available over a company's intranet or through special kiosks.

ESS and Time Tracking

When it comes to employee time tracking, Employee Self Service allows employees to easily punch In and Out, transfer departments or jobs, request time off, and more—all through a web browser with access to the Internet or the company’s intranet.

ESS applications make it easier for employees to stay informed about critical information related to their jobs and perform tasks such as:

  • Check the balance and past usage of their paid time off
  • Review their schedules
  • Verify their addresses, phone numbers, and other personal information
  • Check and see if they’ve worked to schedule

Save Administrative Time and Effort

Employees aren’t the only ones who benefit from ESS solutions. Often administrative staff and management spend hours answering employee requests for information. With Employee Self Service:

  • Employees answer their own questions about punches, time off
  • HR can focus on more strategic activities
  • Save time and effort across the organization

Working remotely? Employee Self Service handles employees who work off site, travel or telecommute. Access to ESS can also be limited to network addresses that the company has approved.

In addition, Employee Self Service cuts the time and effort to enroll and maintain an employee’s enrollment at a time clock.
